It’s a Generational “Social Phenomenon”

A very interesting blog by Harvard Business (click here for a link) published late last week highlights a major change that is coming to the workplace. Never before in history have there been five different generations working together, side-by-side, in the workplace. As Traditionalists and Baby Boomers push back their retirement dates and continue to work into their late 60′s and even 70′s, this new reality is quickly emerging.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics speculates that Millennials, in their sheer numbers, will primarily inherit the workplace by 2015- overtaking Gen X.

This raises many questions. What will the face of business look like in the near future? The ultra-techie culture of the younger generations has already impacted companies’ ways of doing business and especially marketing — but these changes will only proliferate in the near future. Many companies must be wondering right around now if they can keep up.

This is precisely why CEIR decided to focus its efforts and resources on a large-scale generational research study. Just how the younger generations are impacting exhibitions and events is a topic as vital to this industry as is the concept of face-to-face marketing itself.

We hope you’ll find many insightful new facts and figures in our Power of Exhibitions in the 21st Century study due out on 26 October. Look for it then at www.ceir.org.
