A Generational Footnote

CEIR’s generational study is in its final stages – the research has been completed and the CEIR staff and research committee are busy preparing a final, comprehensive report of the study’s most important findings for public release.

The Power of Exhibitions in the 21st Century study combines three major elements:  aggregate results from qualitative on-site interviews with young professional attendees at ten industry events, a large-scale quantitative web-based survey with qualified Gen X and Millennial respondents, and analysis of that research and additional generational insight from Chuck Underwood of The Generational Imperative.

In the meantime, to give you a glimpse of what the research conducted thus far has revealed, here are some of the topics that will be tackled in the study:

  • Gen Xers’ and Millennials’ interest in attending exhibitions
  • Reasons Gen Xers and Millennials may not be attending
  • Online social media usage of young professionals
  • Young attendees’ impressions of exhibiting staff
  • Young attendees’ impressions of education sessions during exhibitions
  • What influences Gen Xers and Millennials when choosing educational sessions
  • How important networking is to young attendees
  • What’s important to know about Gen Xers
  • What’s important to know about Millennials

Moreover, for each of these topics, actionable recommendations will be offered to help organizers and exhibitors transform the way they are doing things in order to keep these two crucial generations going to events and coming back to them, year after year.

We believe the research we have conducted and will soon disseminate is a crucial first-step towards capturing the attention of young professionals in order to expose them to the great returns of attending exhibitions.

When it comes to generational research, what topics would you appreciate findings on? Leave us your thoughts here.
