Third Quarter 2009 CEIR Index Results: How Do Your Numbers Compare?

by Terri Phillips on December 1, 2009

The Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) announces that preliminary data collected annually for The CEIR Index report for the third quarter of 2009 reveals that the exhibition industry experienced an overall decline when compared to the same quarter of 2008. These third quarter results mark a slight decrease in performance compared to the second quarter of 2009 and this is the sixth consecutive quarter of negative numbers.

While the Index data for the third quarter of 2009 does convey declines in all four metrics of measurement, attendance continued to fare relatively well.

Exhibitions are historically a trailing indicator so even though there is reported improvement in GDP and technically we are no longer in a recessionary period, CEIR does not expect that to influence the 4th quarter 2009 numbers.

What are your numbers showing?    Our readers want to know….

I believe the 2009 1st QTR INDEX results were as follows:
Net Square Footage: - 14.8%
Exhibiting Companies: - 10.4%
Attendance: - 1.5%
What are the 2nd and 3rd quarter results?
